Gabriele Franchini and Daniel Balboni win the "Prime mosse dell'anno" Tournament!
The fourth edition of the "Prime mosse dell'anno" Tournament, Club 64's customary start-of-year appointment, ended yesterday. The event, comprising an Open tournament and an Under tournament reserved for the youngest players, saw the participation of 39 players who competed for the rich prizes at stake. In the Open, as predicted, FM Gabriele Franchini triumphed, dominating the field and finishing with a perfect score of 5 points out of 5, followed by 1N Roberto Landi (4/5), 1N Moreno Merciari (4/5) and 2N Andrea Boasso (4/5). The rating-band prizes went to 2N Ottavio Mammi (3/5), 3N Michele Raisi (3/5) and Leonardo De Marco (3/5). In the Under tournament the very young Daniel Balboni prevailed with 4.5 points out of 5, followed by Antonio Verrelli (4.5/5) and Giacomo Montorsi (4/5). Of particular note were the board performances of Leonardo De Marco and Alessandro Rubini, who recorded Elo coefficients of 1.42 and 0.94, respectively. Club 64 thanks arbiter Lorenzo Rosa for running the tournament.
