The great endgame study composer Marco Campioli has left us

We have learned with deep sorrow that Marco Campioli, a long-standing Member and friend of Club 64, has passed away.
Those who had the chance to know Marco will surely remember his passion for the game and in particular for endgame studies. In the field of study composition he was a true giant, so much so that he won the title of Italian champion in this speciality several times, and he was the first Italian to enter the world ranking of study composition.
For many people in Sassuolo he was a point of reference and a teacher, with a boundless passion for the game and an extremely deep knowledge of its history and of many of its aspects, as well as being an exemplary person.
In our library we jealously keep a study that Marco composed for the 25th anniversary of the founding of Club 64.
The Italian Chess Federation too has joined the unanimous mourning by commemorating Campioli on the front page of its website.
The Funeral will be held today at the Parish of Sant'Antonio di Padova (ai Fratini), via Fossetta 37, 41049 Sassuolo (MO) at 15:15.
