The 59-round Blitz Marathon, the first FIDE-rated one in Italy, a success!
On Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 February 2020 the Blitz Marathon was played in the magnificent setting of the “Villa di Là” farm holiday centre in Maranello, the FIDE-rated tournament in Italy with the highest number of rounds: no fewer than 59 games (time control 3 minutes + 2 seconds per move) were played by each of the 60 participants, from 10 in the morning until 2:20 in the night between Saturday and Sunday, with breaks only for lunch and dinner.
After a very hard-fought tournament, with several reversals of fortune even in the very top positions, GM Kenny Solomon wins with the extraordinary score of 56.5 out of 59, closely followed by IM Daniele Genocchio (55/59), FM Valerio Luciani (51.5/59), and the Club 64 representative Pedro Luís Agudelo (49/59).
The club thanks chief arbiter Graziano Ballista for the professionalism and organisational skill shown, ably assisted by the staff made up of Lorenzo Rosa, Angelo Mancini and Antonio Sfera.
For several years now our club has been offering these sought-after events, which have always met with success among blitz enthusiasts, crowning this edition with official acceptance by FIDE. The board is already at work to schedule the marathon for next year, don't miss it!
