Excellent performance by Club 64 at the 6th Città di Omegna International Tournament
On Sunday 5 August 2018 the 6th “Città di Omegna” International Tournament, organised by the Circolo Scacchistico del Cusio at the Circolo Ferraris, concluded in Omegna on Lake Orta.
Among the 81 registered players and the many top-level players spread across the 2 tournaments of the event, there was a group of boys and girls from Club 64 Modena, made up of Silvia and Enrico Giuntini, Roberto Mocanu, Matteo and Luca Ballotti, who placed well in their respective tournaments.
Open A,
in which 28 players were entered with an average Elo of around 2000 pts (11 players had more than 2000 Elo pts, including 1 GM, 1 FM, 1 WIM, 3 Masters and many other CMs), was won by M Giuseppe Coratella with 4 pts out of 5, second WIM Ni Vicktorija with the same points at the end of the first 5 rounds, third place for FM Pierluigi Passerotti, who on tie-break with 3.5 pts led a small group of 5 other players with the same points: M Alex Doboletta, GM Sprenger Jan Michael Dr., CM Gianluca Finocchiaro, CM Paolo Quirico and Luca Ballotti, who thus takes 2nd place in the band up to 2000 Elo pts; 20th Enrico Giuntini with 2 pts.
Open B,
with 53 players rated below 1800 Elo, was won on tie-break by Ricardo Trotta with 4.5 pts out of 5, followed with the same points by Marco Gotti, third with 4 pts Giuseppe Mantovan;
A fine tournament for our youngsters; Matteo Ballotti 34th with 2.5 pts, followed on tie-break by Roberto Mocanu, then Silvia Giuntini who with 1.5 pts also takes 1st place among the U16 girls.
A lovely weekend of chess spent with friends alongside many strong Italian and foreign players in an enchanting little town at the foot of the Alps and on Lake Orta.
