WGM Olga Zimina wins the 19th Modena Rapid Open
Woman Grandmaster Olga Zimina won the 19th Modena Rapid Open 2015. Olga took the tournament with an emphatic 8.5 points out of 9, half a point ahead of the young Bologna FIDE Master Artem Gilevych and FIDE Master Andrea Cocchi, 3rd overall on tie-break with a final 6.5 points. Among Club 64 members, CM Fabrizio Frigieri finished fifth overall (6.5). The tournament recorded the same number of participants as the 2014 edition: 64 players present, just like the squares on the chessboard. Despite the evident drop in participation compared with a few years ago (a trend unfortunately widespread at national level), the tournament ranks among the very top in Emilia-Romagna and nationally in terms of number of participants for a rapid tournament. As is tradition, at the end of the tournament the prize-giving of the 2015 Regional Rapid Circuit was held and the special prizes for the Region's athletes who distinguished themselves during the year were awarded. Sincere thanks to the Polisportiva San Faustino, which provided the main hall for the tournament, and to arbiters Antonio Sfera, Graziano Ballista and Angelo Mancini and to the new regional arbiters Marcos Vergara and Dania Agnoletto, who arbitrated the event with availability and professionalism.
