New CM Riccardo Dionigi is the surprise winner of the San Geminiano Rapid

A great turnout for the third San Geminiano Open Rapid 2015, which recorded the presence of 24 players (equalling the record of the previous edition), including several of master level. The time control, which provided 25 minutes each to complete the game plus a three-second increment per move, was particularly appreciated. The surprise winner of the tournament was the new Candidate Master Riccardo Dionigi, who finished unbeaten with 4.5 points out of 5. Completing the podium, half a point behind the winner, were CM Walter Paoli and FM Gabriele Franchini, second and third respectively in the final standings. 1N Paolo De Biaggi (2.5 points) took the 1800-2000 band prize; the 1600-1800 band was won by Valerii Nasonkin (4 points); the young Cesare Wang (2 points) won the 1400-1600 band prize, and Francesco Orlandi (2.5 points) rounded off the band prizes, winning the category below 1400 Elo points. Due and particularly heartfelt congratulations go to the young Riccardo Dionigi (born 1995), who completed a memorable chess weekend with his historic and thoroughly deserved promotion to Candidate Master. Riccardo thus joins in the master category many young friends and team-mates who grew up in the Club 64 chess school. Congratulations from all his friends at the association for this important and prestigious achievement.
