FM Artem Gilevych wins the 14th Vignola weekend

The 14th "Città di Vignola" weekend festival concluded on Sunday 15 November. The event's participation record was beaten with 65 attendances in total (45 in tournament A and 20 in tournament B), showing that the traditional mid-November appointment has by now carved out a role of prime importance among the Region's annual tournaments. Tournament A was particularly hard-fought, with no fewer than 5 players finishing at the top on 4 points out of 5. The tie-break awarded the final victory to FIDE Master Artem Gilevych from Bologna, a devotee of the tournament and already its winner in 2009. Second overall was FIDE Candidate Master Mauro Barletta from Turin, ahead of the home FIDE Master Gabriele Franchini. Fourth overall another devotee of the tournament: CM Marco Vincenzi. Fifth overall, and in the winners' group with 4 out of 5, Master Andrea Murgia from Pavia. Tournament B was won on tie-break by the very young Michele Melotti, ahead of home player Antonio Ara and Alessio Lolli, all three with 4 points out of 5. Sincere thanks to the Laghetto dei Ciliegi, which has hosted the tournament for years, providing an excellent and comfortable playing hall. Thanks also to the impeccable and ever-present arbiters Angelo Mancini, Antonio Sfera, Mauro Garavelli and Graziano Ballista.
