Prestigious success for Lapenna in Pineto
A great performance and a prestigious success for Master Antonio Lapenna at the Pineto International Festival, in Abruzzo, held from 14 to 16 February. Among the organisers of the tournament was our friend and Club 64 founder Fausto del Papa, who will have handed the winner's cup to Antonio with great joy and satisfaction, having been his first teacher and having watched him grow as a chess player in the 1990s together with many other Club 64 youngsters, at a time when the club was laying the foundations for its many successes in the youth sector. Almost 100 players took part in the tournament, divided into 3 different Opens. Antonio Lapenna deservedly won Open A (34 players) outright with 4.5 points out of 5, starting from seed number 6. Decisive was the fourth-round win over one of the pre-tournament favourites: IM Daniele Genocchio. Antonio achieved a great Elo performance of 2,527 points! The title of FIDE Master really seems within reach. Congratulations on the prestigious result from all of Club 64.
