Great performance by Club 64 in the CIS gatherings

Over the weekend just gone (21-23 March) the CIS gatherings for Serie A1 and the lower divisions were scheduled all over Italy. Club 64 was assigned the organisation of the gathering for groups B7 (7 teams - Swiss system) and C13 (6 teams - round robin), which were played at the Castle of Levizzano Rangone. The official arbiters of the event were our own Antonio Sfera and Graziano Ballista. In the "gathering weekend" Club 64 had no fewer than 5 teams competing in various groups. The long-standing Club 64 Modena 2 (Vezzosi, Iotti, Frigieri, Vincenzi and Farachi) was competing in the difficult gathering for group A1.1 in Acqui Terme, in Piedmont. The young Chaturanga and the very young Matto Strozzato were competing in the group B7 gathering in Levizzano, and the home teams were completed by Modena Senior and Polerio Vignola, competing in group C13. The difficult initial goal for all the teams was to avoid relegation, considering the very high level of the various groups. The outcome was decidedly positive and no fewer than 4 teams out of 5 managed to stay up. Modena 2 and Chaturanga even finished third in their respective groups (won by Acqui Terme and Conegliano). Modena Senior secured safety with a round to spare in the Serie C group dominated by our cousins from Lolli Cavezzo. But the real feat of the weekend was achieved by the youngsters of Matto Strozzato (Ferraguti, Tazzioli, Carletti, Simonini and Ballista), excellently captained by Roberto Simonini. The initial ranking did not leave much hope of staying up, and thanks to a great overall performance, an excellent team spirit and a "dramatic" last round won at the very last moment, the feat was accomplished. A pity only for our friends of Polerio Vignola, who will play in Promozione again in 2015. Congratulations to everyone on the great result.
