FM Franchini and CM Frigieri at the First Saturday
FM Gabriele Franchini and CM Fabrizio Frigieri have returned from their tough trip to Hungary, where they competed in the demanding closed tournament of the traditional First Saturday in Budapest, valid for International Master norms. After a difficult start (half a point out of 2 in the first 2 games) there were signs of recovery, and both Club 64 representatives finished the tournament with a more than respectable 3.5 points out of 9, which allowed both players to gain a few Elo points. The tournament was particularly difficult because at least 3-4 young players were fighting for the IM norm and all the other participants were experienced FIDE Masters or International Masters, highly trained and active all year round. Considering also several missed opportunities that could have brought a few more points, the final result is to be considered more than good.
