Ballista and Carletti star in Cesenatico
A great performance by the very young Massimiliano Ballista and Davide Carletti (both born in 1998) at the traditional Cesenatico International Festival. Massimiliano finished third overall in Open B (starting as no. 13 seed), out of a total of no fewer than 99 participants. With the Elo points gained, promotion to Candidate Master is ever closer. Davide Carletti also starred: after a period of relative inactivity, he finished his tournament in Open A with a brilliant performance of 2142 Elo points and, thanks also to the K 40 introduced on 1 July for U18 players, gained over 80 Elo points and earned the Candidate Master category at just 16 years of age (to be ratified with the publication of 1 October). An excellent tournament also for the young Riccardo Dionigi (performance of 2080 Elo points in Open A) and for WGM Olga Zimina (9th overall and a performance of 2370). Arbiter Graziano Ballista was part of the event's arbiting staff. Congratulations to our young chess players for the brilliant results achieved.
