Simultaneous exhibition by Elisa Chiarion

On 29 November a conference was held in Ferrara presenting the "de ludo scachorum", a chess book of considerable historical importance written in 1500 by the Franciscan Luca Pacioli on commission from Princess Isabella d'Este, who aspired to improve her knowledge of the game of chess. Organised by the Province of Ferrara, with the contribution of the Circolo Scacchistico Estense, the event then continued with the Italian under-18 chess champion Elisa Chiarion, who, wearing a typical sixteenth-century costume, gave a simultaneous exhibition, facing no fewer than eight very young Ferrara chess players in the "games room" of the Castello Estense. At the same time, actors in costume (Catozzi Mauro, Berti Claudia and Bosi Eletra) portrayed a chess lesson given by the Spanish master Francesch Vicent to the two sisters-in-law, Duchess Lucrezia Borgia and Marchioness Isabella d'Este.
