Historic 3rd place for Club 64 at the 2013 Master finals
Portlab Club 64 secures a historic podium at the 2013 Master finals, finishing in joint 3rd-5th place together with Latina and Milanese. Three wins (against Roma, Latina and Trieste), as many draws (against the 2 Palermo line-ups and the no. 2 seed Chieti) and just one defeat (against Milanese) allow Club 64 to finish the tournament in a historic 3rd place, only half an individual point behind the 2nd-placed team. The result on board one was also extraordinary: the young GM Viktor Erdos (2634) took the gold medal as the best board one of the whole tournament. A prestigious result, considering the total presence of 19 GMs, some of them much higher rated (such as Cheparinov, Gawain and K. Georgiev). Sincere thanks and congratulations to all the architects of this feat: GM Viktor Erdos, GM Lexy Ortega, FM Michelangelo Scalcione, IM Paolo Vezzosi, FM Pierluigi Iotti and M Antonio Lapenna, all protagonists of an excellent tournament and an unforgettable team performance. Let us not forget captain Fabrizio Frigieri and friend and sponsor Gabriele Franchini, always present with the team and Club 64's first supporters during every match.
