FM Valerio Luciani wins the free rapid tournament in Soliera
A very large turnout at the free-entry rapid tournament in Soliera, held on the evening of Monday 5 August.
Sincere thanks to the ARCI of Soliera, which provided the prizes in kind, and to Graziano Ballista and Luciano Panini, who took care of the arbiting and the organisational side of the event. Despite it being the height of summer there were no fewer than 43 participants in total, including several master-level players. The top seed, FIDE Master Valerio Luciani, fresh from his success in the just-concluded Modena blitz circuit, won with a perfect score. Second place for 1N Francesco Foroni and a surprise third for CM Sergio Garofalo, who played a great tournament. First among the under-16s was 2N Massimiliano Ballista.
