Regional Arbiter course and exam

The FSI arbiters' area officer, together with the Emilia Romagna Regional Committee, is holding the theory course for the Regional Arbiter title at the club: twenty hours of classroom training on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September and Saturday 3 October 2026, at Coop. Colombofila Centro Est, Via Salvo D'Acquisto 161 in Modena.

The programme covers the FIDE Laws of Chess and their casuistry, including the anti-cheating principles; the federal technical regulations and adding players to a running tournament; the youth, rapid and blitz regulations; round-robin and Swiss pairing systems; appointment criteria; the tournament clock; an arbiter's duties, role and conflicts of interest; tie-break systems; tournament ratification, pairing software and arbiters' fees.

After the course and before the exam, candidates serve as assistant arbiter in a tournament, for an aptitude assessment. The examination session is held at the same venue on Sunday 22 November 2026, and admission depends on having attended both the course and the traineeship.

The fee for the course and exam is 35 euro; entries closed on 18 September 2026. For practising regional arbiters the course counts towards their training obligation (12 credits), free of charge for those registered and active, subject to passing the final multiple-choice test with at least 75% correct answers.
