"Chess in the family" tournament concluded
The first chess in the family tournament was held on Saturday 17 February 2018, a brilliant idea of Dr. Ballotti, who thought it would be great fun to hold a family team tournament; we did our research and it seems the idea had never been carried out, at least in Italy; later we added the possibility of a family adoption to include chess-orphan children, we published the announcement, got a food basket for the family that finished last to make it clear that this was a party more than a tournament, and the result went beyond the rosiest forecast with 11 teams registered.
The tournament would have been won by the GaVeMa (Gazzotti, Vergara and Maran); initially it was to be the Vergaras with Gazzotti adopted, but there were too many players to manage, so Maran offered to play to allow the Vergaras' third board to devote himself to arbitrating, given the significant number of players; the team played but, not complying with the tournament rules, was excluded from the prize-giving.
We thank all the families present who played or accompanied the players in realising this important example of social participation in the life of the club; it was a joy to see so many friendly families spend an afternoon together, testing themselves and getting involved with their children.
