IM Hresc wins the 18th Modena Rapid Open

International Master Vladimir Hresc wins the 18th Modena Rapid Open 2014. Hresc took the tournament with 7.5 points out of 9, ahead on tie-break of FIDE Masters Andrea Cocchi and Michelangelo Scalcione, who finished the tournament with the same points as the winner. Among Club 64 members, worthy of note is the excellent tournament of the youngsters Elisa Chiarion (5th with 6.5 points) and Francesco Ferraguti (7th with 6.5 points). Despite the drop in participation compared with the 2013 edition (which reflects a general trend in Italy and in the Region), the tournament recorded a fair number of participants (64 players present) and was still among the leading rapid tournaments in Italy in 2014 by number of entries. As is traditional, at the end of the tournament the prize-giving of the 2014 Regional Rapid Circuit was held and the special prizes were awarded to the Region's athletes who distinguished themselves during the year. Sincere thanks to the restaurant Il Bounty, which made its main hall available for the tournament, and to arbiters Antonio Sfera and Graziano Ballista, who officiated the event with their usual availability and professionalism.
