FM Andrea Malfagia wins the 12th Vignola weekend tournament

The 12th "Città di Vignola" weekend festival ended on Sunday 17 November. The total number of participants was the same as in 2012 (51 players between tournament A and tournament B), proof that the traditional mid-November weekend has by now carved out a role of prime importance among the Region's annual events. An unprecedented all-Bologna podium in tournament A saw FIDE Master Andrea Malfagia, a devotee of the tournament and already winner of numerous editions in the past, triumph with 4.5 points out of 5. Second overall CM Paolo Guastadini, ahead on tie-break of 1N Domenico Lateana, both on 4 points. In tournament B Daniele Melchiorre from Bologna prevailed with 4.5 out of 5, ahead of the young Bolognese Jonel B Manguerra (4 points) and Alessandro Di Biccari of Ferrara (3.5 points). Sincere thanks to the Laghetto dei Ciliegi, which has hosted the tournament for years, providing an excellent and comfortable playing hall. Thanks also to the impeccable and ever-present arbiters Angelo Mancini, Antonio Sfera and Graziano Ballista.
